> Se inauguró la décima Exhibición de Arquitectura Internacional en Venecia. El enfoque del evento es mostrar la evolución de grandes ciudades como Barcelona, Mumbai, Cairo, Caracas en la era globalizada en la cual las poblaciones se están migrando masivamente a las ciudades.

La conclusión de la muestra es desconsoladora. Anticipa un futuro distópico: ciudades como Cairo, Mumbai, Mexico City and Dhaka, Bangladesh tienen poblaciones de más de 10 millones y están proyectadas para llegar a los 30 millones en el futuro próximo.

"For the neanderthals, this was a great place to be. The view would have been breathtaking, and they would have literally been able to see where their next meal was coming from," said Chris Stringer, a scientist on the project at the Natural History Museum in London. "The evidence supports the idea that this was one of their last survival spots, one of their final outposts."

> Sacha Cohen es el cómico ingles cuyo último personaje, Borat, esta causando escándalos en los estados unidos. La película por estrenar se trata de este Borat, que es un periodista de Kazakhstan haciendo un perfil de los estados unidos. Su método es presentarse como un bruto ingenuo para demostrar lados oscuros de la sociedad estadounidense. Por ejemplo va a un bar sureño donde cada uno se puede parar a cantar. Borat se para y se pone a cantar una cancion extremadamente racista, pero todo los personajes en el bar se prenden y cantan con el.

El presidente de Kazakhstan ha pedido una audiencia con Bush para protestar contra Cohen ya que dice que crea una imagen que perjudica a su país.

>La excelente y excéntrica revista Cabinet publica una larga nota sobre una ciudad imaginaria , llamada Metropolis, que pensaba construir King Camp Gillette, el fundador de la empresa de las famosas hojas de afeitar.

Gillette presento el plan y las ideas tras la ciudad utópica en un libro titulado The Human Drift publicado en 1894.

> Gallimard edita las obras completas de Camus. Esta nota en el TLS describe en profundidad la relacion entre el autor y su editor.

The Gallimards made Camus and a Gallimard killed him. From L’Étranger onwards, all his works were published by the family firm, the most prestigious in twentieth-century French literature. In fact, one of the first people whom Camus met at the newspaper Paris-Soir, when he arrived in Paris in early 1940, was Janine Thomasset, who would later be the wife, successively, of Pierre Gallimard and his cousin, Michel Gallimard. She was also to be a passenger in the car driven by Michel Gallimard in the crash that killed him and Camus in January 1960. Janine survived.

> El duo musical Matmos acaban de componer una obra en tributo al matematico Alan Turing usando una máquina de criptografía Enigma. Los Enigma eran las maquinas con cual los Nazi codificaban sus comunicados durante la segunda guerra mundial. Turing fue el líder del equipo que logró quebrar la clave de la máquina, y por consecuencia, fue una de los grandes responsables por la victoria de los aliados sobre los alemanes.

Seria fantástico hacerle una nota a Matmos. Leen la descripción de sus proyectos:

El New York Times reporta la increíble semejanza entre las letras de las canciones de su último disco –Modern Times—y las de un poeta poco conocido de la guerra civil estadounidense llamado Henry Timrod. Fíjense:


Dylan se hace el grán boludo. Los que lo defienden dicen que así funciona el folk – prestando y reinventando. Yo digo que es un chorro.
